Baby Asher

Baby Asher was finally born on September 3rd at 11:00pm. I say finally just because it seemed like we waited for ever to finally meet him. He was actually born a week before his due date as we had scheduled an induction. The doctor wanted to have an early scheduled induction to avoid any problems due to Zoe's super fast delivery.

First off, if any of you think it is weird that I am writing about my wife's delivery experience, it is because if I don't write it, it won't get written. I told her that she should still write the experience in her own words on here, which I hope she does. In the meantime, here is the story and some photos of our new little Asher. I am also going to put a bunch more photos on our Flickr site today. We were supposed to go into the hospital at 7:30 that morning for the induction, but when we called at 6:30 to see if everything was still okay with the hospital, they were too full to accomodate us at that time. In fact, they were still waiting to fit in a 12am and 1am induction from the night before. So, we had to wait around until 2:00pm for hospital to call and tell us that we could come. By the time they checked us in and hooked everything up it was about 3:30pm. Katie had already told the doctor that she didn't want an epidural, so that was the plan. Katie had already begun to have contractions on her own about 6 minutes apart. She wasn't feeling them at all but they were showing up on the monitor and the nurse said that she was definitely going into labor on her own. We had to wait until around 5:30 to start the pitocin because they didn't have enough pumps. They slowly titrated the pitocin over the next few hours and she was soon having contractions every 3-5 minutes. Katie still wasn't feeling the contractions, but they were showing up on the monitors. Around 8:30 we asked if they could break her water to speed things up. They were afraid to because they didn't have enough nurses to cover if Katie delivered quickly because the other woman that the nurse was covering was also in labor. At around 10:00pm, Katie was finally starting to feel the contractions a little bit and we finally convinced them to break her water. We were sure that once her water broke the baby would come quickly. About a half an hour after her water was broken she was fully dialated and quickly after that Asher was born. It was another amazing birth that Katie is known for. Asher was 9 lbs 12 ozs and 21.5 inches long and was born without an epidural. He had quite a bit of fuzzy dark hair much like Zoe, just shorter. I am grateful that he is here with us now, that he came without any complications and I am grateful for the wonderful wife and mom that Katie is.

Such big news! I am glad everything went well. Isn't it crazy how big your older child looks when you bring that new baby home from the hospital? I Know when we brought Brooklyn home from the hospital it was hard to remember Aly being so small.

Thanks Dave for your blog since Katie is a blogging slacker:) I was excited to hear how things went. your blogs are always entertaining.
